Proposed

Vijana Shambani — Youth in the Field

A proposed four-month initiative, October 2026 to January 2027, to document and share the work of the youth and women on ARF’s organic farm in Mkuranga: a documentary, a communication plan and an anniversary event.

This is a concept note, not a programme in operation. Nothing described below has been delivered. It sets out a plan for four months, October 2026 to January 2027, and is published so that partners can read the design.

Why this project

ARF runs an organic agriculture project in Mkuranga District, where, the concept note describes, youth and women groups work on the farm across several value chains, and the farm doubles as a demonstration site for organic practice.

The note’s starting point is that this work is not yet well documented or shared: its activities, its milestones and the people involved. That, it argues, limits learning and replication, and the recognition and support the young farmers and women need to grow their enterprises.

What it would produce

  • A documentary in two cuts: a short version for sharing and a complete version for the event, the archive and partners
  • A visibility and communication plan across ARF’s platforms and those of its consortium partners
  • Regular social media content: farm life, value-chain activity, farmer spotlights and success stories
  • Monthly documentation of the youth and women groups’ progress, in writing and photography
  • A session on branding, visibility and business growth for the participating youth and women
  • A flagship event celebrating ARF’s years of impact, premiering the documentary and launching a new ARF project

The planned schedule

  • October 2026 — inception. Team set-up, courtesy visits in Mkuranga, a first field visit for baseline filming and to identify the youth and women to feature, and the communication strategy and storyboard.
  • November 2026 — production. A second field visit for filming and interviews, regular posting, two success stories documented, a short teaser, and the capacity-building session.
  • December 2026 — consolidation. A third field visit for follow-up filming and evaluation interviews, editing the complete documentary, and planning the event.
  • January 2027 — launch and evaluation. A closing field visit, both documentary edits finalised, the flagship event, and the final evaluation and success-story reports, with all media handed over to ARF.

Field visits are planned for two to three days a month; the concept note says exact dates will be confirmed with the Mkuranga field team.

What is not published

The concept note contains a budget. It is a proposal, not money raised, approved or spent, so it does not appear on this site.

The note also lists a proposed project team whose roles are marked as still to be confirmed. They are not named here until those roles are confirmed.

Objectives

To strengthen the visibility and public recognition of ARF’s organic agriculture work in Mkuranga District, and to build the confidence, awareness and enterprise capacity of the youth and women in its value chains. The concept note sets five objectives: a documentary of the project and its participants; a structured visibility and communication plan; consistent social media content on youth-led agribusiness; a flagship event celebrating ARF’s years of impact that premieres the documentary and launches a new project; and training for participants on branding, visibility and business growth.

Where it stands

A concept note. Nothing in it has been delivered. It sets out a plan for October 2026 to January 2027; the documentary, the campaign and the event it describes do not yet exist.

Partner and community roles

A proposed joint initiative, led by African Reflections Foundation, with Human Dignity and Environment Care Foundation (HUDEFO) and Initiative Beyond Limits (IBL) named in the concept note as consortium partners. Their platforms are named as channels for the planned campaign.

Who this serves

Youth and women groups engaged in on-farm organic agriculture on the ARF farm in Mkuranga District, across its value chains. The wider audience is ARF’s online community, partners, donors and the public.

How this is measured

Planned, not yet in place: monthly field-visit reports; monthly social media analytics (reach, engagement and follower growth); written and photographic success-story documentation; the documentary itself as an evaluation tool; and a final evaluation report at the close.

Data notes

The concept note includes a budget. As a proposal it is not money raised, approved or spent, and it is not published. The proposed project team’s roles are marked as still to be confirmed, so team members are not named.
